No Follow Free, Comment Luv And Keyword Luv Enabled
I have just followed the “movement” and enabled three plugins that can benefit all of you following along here.
First off, I have removed the “no follow” attribute in the comments section using the No Follow Free Plugin. When you leave a comment, you now get a backlink that will count in the search engines from me.
But hold on, it gets even better. I have also enabled Comment Luv and Keyword Luv which gives you the opportunity to actually get two backlinks and keyword rich anchor text from one comment.
Comment Luv works by showing a link to the title from your latest blog post on your site under your comment. This not only gives you a backlink to your blog, but if your post title is interesting enough, some of my readers may be inclined to visit you. ![]()
Keyword Luv is fairly new and I can already see the value in having a plugin like this. This one is especially important for those of you who are not using a blog for your url in the comment section.
Keyword Luv works by separating your name from the keywords you would like to use in the anchor text of your comment. This gives you much improved anchor text for the link. So instead of just your name or keywords being hyperlinked in the comment, your comment will look a little like this:
Melissa from Useful Hints And Tips says:
In which case the keywords or name of your site are hyperlinked - not your name.
Using the above as an example, to make use of the Keyword Luv feature, you will have to enter your information in the name field like this:
Melissa@Useful Hints And Tips
This is not an email address. It just tells the plugin to parse the word Melissa as the name and use Useful Hints And Tips as the anchor text for the link. Go on, leave me a comment and give it a try to see how it works.
If you are interested in using any of these plugins on your WordPress blog, you can find them here:
No Follow Free: http://www.michelem.org/wordpress-plugin-nofollow-free/
Comment Luv: http://www.fiddyp.co.uk/commentluv-wordpress-plugin/
Keyword Luv: http://www.scratch99.com/wordpress-plugin-keywordluv/
Have fun and I hope you all will take advantage of this.
NOTE: I have been pretty liberal in approving comments, however recent extensive abuse is making me add to this post. Folks, I'm not stupid. I've been at this for years and I realize most of you are only looking for a link. You stand a much greater chance of getting it approved if you at least look like you are adding to the discussion. The ones you see below and elsewhere on this site took the time to make the attempt, follow their lead. If it continues, I'll leave Keyword Luv and Comment Luv enabled but will re-enable nofollow on the links. You don't want that and neither do I. Use the comment section wisely.

phpBay was essentially a no-brainer for me over BANS. Nothing against BANS as I have not tried it, but the cheaper price and my love for and growing experience with WordPress made the decision easy. There is great strength and flexibility with WordPress to build well rounded stores.

Thanks so much… Within the next few days (if I can find the time) I am creating a blog and these plugins will definitely be used.
Also, I may have to switch to PhpBay Pro. I’ve seen a couple of sites built with it and they look so much better than the Bans sites. But I do love Bans! So I’ll keep both.

Nice to see more people going vintage and removing nofollow. I particularly think that the commentluv one is the best way of rewarding people, as I think that it is the least susceptible to abuse. Its good to get some links into the posts and not the homepage for once

This is a great way to provide value and encourage participation. It’s a win-win for the site owner and the commenters alike.
Site owners with these plug-ins are going to see a lot more traffic. Nobody has a lot of time to waste frivolously. People will go to those blogs that give the greatest return on their time investment.

You’re quite welcome. I felt the same way, that’s why I enabled it.
I’m hoping more bloggers see the advantage to using these plugins. If they will monitor their comments, it will cut down on spam yet will reward those who visit their site and take the time to comment.

It’s funny, because I was just having a similar conversation on another blog about the morals involved with keyword and comment luv.
It’s tempting for spammers, of course, to come to this blog and say “Good post! I like your font!” or something stupid like that just to get the link. But that’s not the fault or responsibility of the blog owner, but the of the individual posters. I appreciate this blog, and those like it, that open up for OBL’s, but I think that it’s our “duty”, as the webmasters and blog visitors to make sure that the owner gets their “money’s worth”, so to speak, for helping us out. In other words, it’s great to get the link, but you gotta show a little gratitude with some useful text!
Melissa | Jul 30, 2008 | Reply
Hi Chris,
Believe me, I understand totally regarding the morals of CommentLuv and KeywordLuv together on a site.
This is why I have the blog set to where I must approve all comments. Yes, some of the comments I’ve received are pure spam - which I won’t approve.
I also know most are only going to comment to get the link. However I look at it this way, we all win. Not only does it encourage reader participation, they are rewarded with a link back to their site.
It benefits me because those who comment are helping to add content through discussion. As well, it helps to build my outbound links.
And I honestly do not mind giving a link to someone who has taken the time to post a thoughtful comment.

I am bookmarking this blog for updates. Thank you for the free helpful info. I will probably implement the keyword luv in my blog now. I think the “revolution” of do follow is a good thing.

Melissa, I do agree that you don’t want this plugin to be abused. But don’t you think getting a backlink is one of the incentives of commenting. Plug-ins like keyword luv and top commentators are directed to drive more traffic and comments.

Nice blog with a great Keyword Luv plug-in. I installed the same plug-in on my real estate blog and it really helps to get people involved in participating in the blog but the downside is that I get a lot of one word comments and spam comments but what can you do! Anyways, giving some interesting comments and participating in various blogs can be fun!

I installed keyword luv a few months ago and am just wondering about the value of it. I get a lot of one or two sentence comments that seem alright. But you don’t hear from them again and isn’t it clear that it’s just free advertising for them. Most people who are smart enough to build a blog can leave these comments. How exactly do I benefit? Other than it is better to give than receive of course.

Hi. I just installed Comment Luv on two blogs this week. I saw a quick splash of short comments that died off quickly. It’s been too short of a time to make any decisions about it. I check on things often enough that the spam hasn’t been unmanageable. Askimet seems to do a pretty good job at catching junk. Thanks for offering up the Luv.

Hi David,
For me, the value of adding Keyword Luv is to give people the option to leave a name along with the words they choose to anchor for their site. This way, when I respond to a comment they have made, I do not have to address them by saying, “Hi Discount Travel Deals”
In your case, on your blog, your Keyword Luv links are not followed. It is just there for the benefit of your reader community. If readers see a person commenting a lot, they will tend to visit their website. Having Keyword Luv installed lets those visitors see what that person’s site is going to be about before they ever pop over.
It is true that you will not hear from some people ever again. That is the nature of this business. However, you will find that some will return again and again. A few of these will have visited once to possibly gain a backlink and liked your blog so they follow it. This happens more than you think.
Another way it benefits your blog is that it encourages visitor participation. Most of the time you will receive more comments than you would have otherwise. This looks as though your blog is quite active which encourages even more comments from new visitors.
In giving something to your readers, you are getting something in return by building a following along with a more active blog.
As the blog owner, if you do not like the one or two sentence comments, you can always moderate them and delete them if those bother you.
I hope this helps answer your question and if you’d like me to clear it up a little more, just ask.
Thanks for stopping by.
Melissa
